The Archive Unit is a division at the Document Department of the Office of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania. It collects and manages, stores and uses series of records held by the Seimas Archive.
The collections of the Seimas Archive include:
All in all, the holdings amount to 35,941 files of written documents, 2,440 recordings of audio documents, 1,856 recordings of video documents and 113,967 photo documents.
In accordance with the procedure established by law, services of the Seimas Archive are open to MPs, employees and staff members of the Seimas Office and any other natural and legal persons. Use of records constituting an object of copyright and neighbouring rights is subject to the procedure set by the legislation on the respective rights. Activity documents of natural persons are held by the Archive subject to the parties’ agreement and used in the manner provided by the Transfer and Use Agreement.
As part of the services, the Archive Unit issues certified copies and extracts of archival records, as well as drafts and issues archival certifications on the work length and pay. The records from the Seimas Archive are displayed at the exhibitions held in the Seimas Building and in agencies of the Republic of Lithuania abroad and they appear in publications as well.
The records of the Seimas Archive are available to the public in the Reading Room of the Archive Unit subject to the procedure set by law.
Persons interested in archival documents have to write an application to the Secretary General of the Seimas and indicate the documents of interest.
