The affairs discussed at the meeting between Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas, and Deborah Ann McCarthy, US Ambassador, were the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, energy security, Eastern Partnership, Lithuanian defence budget and Lithuania’s role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
Seimas Speaker Loreta Graužinienė underlined strong and historically significant relations between Lithuania and the US. She said, “We see the US as our partner and ally, and this will not change. Our countries cooperate in various fields therefore what we have to so now is develop our relations further”.
US Ambassador Deborah Ann McCarthy noted that Lithuania was a reliable partner whose contribution in Afghanistan was particularly valued. Madame Ambassador was happy for Lithuania as it had women in high posts and as they were appreciated in politics and business.
