Press release, 31 October 2013

The Speaker of the Seimas, Loreta Graužinienė, met with the Italian Ambassador to Lithuania, Stefano Taliani de Marchio.

The Speaker noted that after the case of Villa Lituania had been resolved, it was easier for the Lithuanian diplomatic corps to work in Italy. She said, “Cooperation between Italy and Lithuania can be successful in many fields, therefore I support the idea of closer cooperation between the Italian and Lithuanian Parliaments.”

The Ambassador of Italy passed a letter from the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Laura Boldrini, to the Speaker of the Seimas. The letter contains the assurance of the President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies of her readiness to strengthen mutual relations between the two countries and hope of meeting the Speaker of the Seimas in the near future.

“Lithuania will host the Conference of Speakers of EU Parliaments in April 2014, and invitations will be sent to the President of the Senate of the Republic and the President of the Chamber of Deputies. I hope my colleagues will use this opportunity to visit our country,” the Speaker said and emphasised that the Ambassador of Italy was always a welcome guest in the Seimas.

The Italian Ambassador mentioned that the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union made a good impression on Italy and highly valued the cooperation between the two countries in Afghanistan.
