According to the Speaker of the Seimas, everything must be done to avoid such tragedies in Latvia or Lithuania in future. “I hope that your people will summon up the strength to get over the pain inflicted by the tragedy and that life will be back to normal,” said Loreta Graužinienė.

The President of the Republic of Latvia thanked her for support in this difficult hour. “Sincere human relations are very important. Disasters, by their very nature, bring people closer, while support and compassion help move forward,” stated Andris Bērziņš.

The meeting discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries. The head of Latvia said that the Latvian economy was recovering. “As planned, Latvia will adopt the euro next year. I would like to highlight that there are no obstacles to our cross-border business. Since we are small countries, we must work together at major strategic projects,” noted the Latvian President.

The Speaker of the Seimas and the Latvian President also discussed the developments in Ukraine, shared her impressions from the visit to Kyiv and talked about the moods of the Ukrainian people. “The Ukrainian people have high hopes for the integration into the European Union,” said Loreta Graužinienė. The Latvian President stated that the Ukrainian community was the second largest national minority in Latvia and that they were active and important citizens of Latvia.
