Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas, urges the Ukrainian government to be reasonable

Press release, 22 January 2014

Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas, addresses the Ukrainian government and, first and foremost, Volodymyr Rybak, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and urges them to cease using violence against the EuroMaidan protesters and settle the crisis through negotiations.

“I urge the Ukrainian government to be reasonable and urgently cease using violence against its own citizens. Peaceful agreement can only be reached through negotiations and compromise. I believe that the government will find strength and political will to stop violence and punish those responsible for shedding blood,” Mrs Graužinienė said.

The Speaker of the Seimas extends her sincere condolences to the families of the victims and calls on the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine not to ignore the will of the nation but remember instead that it was elected by the people of Ukraine and mandated by them to act on their behalf.
