“Single currency undeniably is one of the guarantors of the stability of the European Union. With the introduction of the euro in Lithuania this year, the Baltic region has become more attractive to investors. I believe that Lithuania’s deeper economic integration into the EU will certainly lead to creation of a more favourable business environment and promote foreign investments. This will therefore strengthen our country’s economy and offer new opportunities,” says the Speaker of the Parliament.

During his visit, the Vice-President of the European Commission congratulated Lithuania upon becoming the 19th member of the euro area. He noted that Lithuania had put a great deal of effort to ensure a smooth shift to the single currency of the EU, and, therefore, joined the euro area as a strong and reliable partner. Mr Valdis Dombrovskis also expressed his appreciation of the strong backing given by the Lithuanian society for the introduction of the euro. He also reminded that from now on, new rules and procedures would have to be observed by Lithuania, when drafting its state budget.
