Press release, 11 February 2015
Speaker of the Seimas, Loreta Graužinienė, has met with Israeli Ambassador to Lithuania Amir Maimon. While welcoming the newly appointed Israel’s representative in Lithuania, the Speaker expressed her satisfaction with the opening of the Embassy of the State of Israel in Vilnius. The Speaker highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between our states and parliaments and solving the issues of mutual concern.

“Lithuania understands the significance of historical justice. The Seimas has adopted the Law on Compensation for the Property of Jewish Religious Communities, and the consensus has been reached on this matter. Respective programmes targeted at younger generation are currently implemented in Lithuania to raise young people’s awareness, help them perceive and feel the tragedy of the Jewish nation, its losses and pain to ensure that it is never repeated again,” says the Speaker.
The Israeli Ambassador expressed his appreciation of what Lithuania was doing for the sake of Jews.
The Embassy of the State of Israel was opened in Vilnius at the end of January this year. During 2012–2014, prior to his current assignment, Amir Maimon worked at the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the Director of North European Division. In his own country the newly appointed Ambassador has been named a veteran of diplomacy. He previously served as a diplomat in Ethiopia, the United States and Turkey.
