On 15 April 2015, the Speaker of the Seimas, Loreta Graužinienė, met with the recently appointed Canadian Ambassador to Lithuania, Allain Hausser. The meeting focussed on the bilateral cooperation, the geopolitical situation in the region and the evaluation of the changes that took place in the European security environment in 2014.
The Ambassador noted that Canada was watching Russia’s moves and the current situation in Ukraine. He assured that, within the framework of NATO, Canada would seek to ensure security of the Baltic States. The Speaker thanked the Canadian air forces for their contribution to the NATO air policing mission in Lithuania in 2014.
The Speaker also highlighted the importance of the inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries. She thanked Canada for its support for Lithuania’s accession to the OECD.
