Speaker of the Seimas congratulated Poland on Constitution Day

Press release, 3 May 2015

On behalf of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and on her own behalf, the Speaker of the Seimas, Loreta Graužinienė, congratulated Poland on the 3rd of May Constitution Day.

In her letters to the Speaker of the Polish Sejm, Radoslaw Sikorski, and the Speaker of the Senate, Bogdan Borusewicz, Mrs Graužinienė highlighted that the 1791 Constitution was the first example of Europe’s unification. The first written Constitution in Europe embedded the freedom of faith, equality before the law, tolerance and the state power based on the will of the nation.

“While giving honour to the 3rd of May Constitution, we have to retain our solidarity and unity in defence of our freedom and European values and strive to achieve our shared goals by developing bilateral relations and cooperation. By being faithful to the ideas of the Constitution, we have to bravely build a safe future for united Europe,” said the Speaker.

The 3rd of May Constitution was adopted in 1791.
