Speaker of the Seimas congratulated Georgia on the Independence Day

Press release, 26 May 2015

On the Independence Day of Georgia, Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas, attended a solemn commemoration in Vilnius Cathedral Square. Welcoming the participants, the Speaker of the Seimas stressed her belief in the freedom of Georgia and the shared future of our countries in the harmonious European family.

“Our nations have been bound by a long-standing friendship. We are further united by the experience of fighting for our independence and the right to foster our native languages and culture. Only the nations that have the same destiny can understand and support each other. Both countries have followed a difficult and challenging road to freedom. The unfurled Lithuanian and Georgian flags are a symbol of this road today,” said Loreta Graužinienė.

According to the Speaker of the Seimas, it was symbolic that, on the Independence Day of Georgia, the flags of both countries were unfurled by young people holding the future of both Lithuania and Georgia in their hands.

On the occasion of the Independence Day, Loreta Graužinienė, on behalf of the Lithuanian parliament and on her own behalf, sent a letter of congratulation to David Usupashvili, Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia. In her official letter, the Speaker of the Seimas wished the Parliament of Georgia every success and productive and creative work, as well as welfare and determination to the people of Georgia in developing a modern and democratic country.
