On his visit to Lithuania, John Boehner, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, attended the official reception hosted by Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas, at the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania.

In her welcome speech to the high officials, the Speaker of the Seimas spoke of the importance of the visit, notably at the time when Lithuania marks the 25th anniversary of the restoration of its independence. Mrs Graužinienė expressed sincere gratitude to the United States of America for its position during the Soviet occupation and the current difficult period: “The United States of America never recognised the occupation of Lithuania, which ruthlessly deleted Lithuania from the map of the world and used all possible means to break the spirit of our nation. We continuously felt that the United States was our unfailing partner. We feel this today as well, in the light of a difficult geopolitical situation.”
Furthermore, the Speaker of the Seimas stressed that freedom, peace and respect for human dignity are the values that belong to all, “no matter which continent the state belongs to and which language is spoken by its people.”
John Boehner, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, is leading a delegation on a visit to Lithuania from 27 to 29 June 2015. A meeting between John Boehner and the leadership of the Seimas will take place on Monday, 29 June.
