Leaders of the Seimas discussed security policy issues with John Boehner, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives

John Boehner, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, and the delegation under his leadership met with the leaders of the Seimas and members of the Seimas committees during his visit to Lithuania at the invitation of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.

 

 

 

The meeting, which lasted over an hour, focused on bilateral cooperation, security policy and energy security.

 

“The United States of America is our strategic partner in ensuring security and stability in Lithuania. The visit of the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, John Boehner, to Lithuania is a clear sign of transatlantic unity. We need the United States today more than ever before. The leading role of the United States is of huge importance to us. We hope that this visit will further strengthen the security and defence cooperation between the United States and Lithuania,” said Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas.

 

 

At the end of the meeting, the Speaker of the Seimas thanked the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives for supporting Lithuania on its path to freedom and awarded him with the Medal of the 25th Anniversary of the Restoration of Lithuania’s Independence. After the meeting, the delegation visited the Office of the Speaker of the Seimas and the Memorial to the Victims of 13 January, where they were briefed on the story of the restoration of Lithuania’s independence.

 

 

The members of the U.S. Congress have completed their three-day visit to Lithuania today.
