Press release, 3 February 2016

Mrs Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas, together with the Speakers of the Nordic and Baltic Parliaments (NB 8), continues her visit to Kiev where she has met with the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko. The meeting focussed on the implementation of the Minsk agreements, security situation, and the ongoing Russia’s aggression in Ukraine. Since the beginning of this year, 12 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed and 40 injured in eastern Ukraine.
The Head of the Lithuanian Parliament noted that given the complicated situation in Ukraine, maintaining political stability is necessary as a guarantee of reform continuity. The Speaker welcomed the reform that is underway in Ukraine and stressed the need to continue the endeavour.
Mr Poroshenko observed that Ukraine had benefited much from political unity and was now in a position to implement necessary reform. The Ukrainian President expressed his gratitude to the Nordic and Baltic countries for their continuous support and solidarity.
On 3 February 2016, the Speaker of the Seimas is going to Dnipropetrovsk, in the east of Ukraine, to meet with the head of regional state administration, head of the regional council, city Mayor, teachers and students at Oles Honchar National University, and representatives of a volunteer battalion. Mrs Graužinienė is also visiting Dnipropetrovsk Regional Clinical Hospital and the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre.
