At the session of the Assembly of Members of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, the Sejm and Senate of the Republic of Poland, and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, which commenced on 30 May 2016, Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas, noted that Lithuania made use of every opportunity to promote European integration processes of Ukraine on the international scene but at the same time underlined the importance of the initiative on Ukraine’s behalf.
“Delegations of the Seimas in various international formats are always determined to act together with Ukraine in defending common interests. I appreciate the successful cooperation between the Delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and its Lithuanian counterpart. However, assistance and support to Ukraine in many cases depend on the level of engagement of the Ukrainian delegation itself in this international organisation,” the Speaker of the Seimas noted.
The Speaker of the Seimas also highlighted the progress Ukraine had made in implementing the necessary reforms and expressed hope that Ukraine would also accelerate the judiciary reform and give due attention to fighting corruption.
“Ukraine should be focused on the chosen path of reforms based on European values,” the Speaker of the Seimas stressed.
Mrs Graužinienė spoke in favour of speeding up the introduction of visa-free regime to Ukraine.
The two-day session of the trilateral Assembly also addressed Euro-Atlantic cooperation matters, the upcoming NATO Summit in Warsaw, and prospects for implementing a free trade area between Ukraine and the European Union.
