Press release, 17 June 2016

On 17 June 2016, Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas, offered her condolences, on behalf of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and her own, over the tragic death of Jo Cox, British Member of Parliament. The letter of condolences addressed to John Bercow, Speaker of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, reads that the news on the murder of the Member of Parliament has been very shocking.

According to the Speaker of the Seimas, the brutal crime discontinued Ms Cox’s strong commitment to and representation of the people who had elected her to Parliament. “This bloody attack reminds us again that we should all jointly strive for a better world free of hatred and violence.”

In her letter of condolences, Mrs Graužinienė extended her wishes of strength to Ms Cox’s family and the people of the country in this difficult hour.
