At the end of her visit in Germany on Thursday, Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas, met with Wolfgang Hellmich, Chairman of the Defence Committee of the Bundestag. They discussed bilateral cooperation, strengthening of regional security, and new challenges for the EU and NATO. Considerable attention was given to the regulation of the Ukrainian crisis, support to Eastern Partnership countries, and refugee matters.
At the subsequent meeting with Ralf Wieland, President of the Chamber of Deputies of Berlin, the Speaker of the Seimas called on German enterprises to invest in Lithuania and for closer cooperation in connection with high technology, health sciences and education. Emphasis was also put on the importance of cultural exchange.
Mrs Graužinienė also met with the chairs and members of the Committee on the Affairs of the European Union and the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Bundestag.
German politicians thanked Lithuania for the constructive approach towards the refugee crisis. They also stressed the important contribution of Lithuania to the regulation of the crisis in Ukraine. Lithuania’s crucial role in the development of dialogue with Belarus was also highlighted.
