Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas, had a meeting with Isa Mustafa, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, during his first ever visit to Lithuania. During the meeting, Ms Graužinienė underlined the desire of Lithuania to maintain friendly bilateral relations with Kosovo and to further develop cooperation in strengthening Kosovo’s statehood and participation in the European integration process.

“Lithuania is looking forward to sharing its experience with Kosovo both in terms of European integration and internal reform. Since the restoration of its independence, Lithuania has made significant progress in implementing institutional, economic and social reforms. The experience our country has gained could be beneficial to democracy-building in the Republic of Kosovo,” said the head of the Lithuanian Parliament.

The Speaker of the Seimas welcomed the success of the EU twinning programme in Kosovo. Three projects have already been implemented in Kosovo under the EU twinning programme, but, as pointed out at the meeting, there are ample opportunities for more cooperation and this potential should be seized.

During the visit of the Kosovo delegation, the parties had an exchange of views on the opportunities for the development of cooperation between the two countries in various areas, especially as far as economic relations are concerned. The need for reform in order to accelerate the European integration of the Republic of Kosovo was also discussed.
