Speaker of the Seimas Vydas Gedvilas congratulates the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on adopting the joint statement in support of the European integration

H.E. Mr Volodymyr Rybak                                                                                                          Vilnius, 22 February 2013

Chairman

Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine

Dear Mr Chairman,

I am greatly pleased to congratulate the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on adopting the joint statement of your country’s political parties in support of the European integration. We appreciate your move as a strong signal of commitment to continue on the European path.

The year 2013 is a time of ground-breaking determination and historical opportunity for your country. I firmly believe that more rapid reforms and unity of all political parties for the sake of a common goal will bring Ukraine closer to an especially significant achievement – an Association Agreement, including a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, with the European Union.

Signing of the Association Agreement in Vilnius Summit in November 2013 would be really symbolic as it would not only once again stand testament to the close historical relationship between Vilnius and Kiev and close political, economic and cultural ties between Lithuania and Ukraine, but also move Ukraine closer to the family of European nations.

I hope that the EU-Ukraine Summit on 25 February will strengthen the resolve of both sides to seek the signing of the Association Agreement in Vilnius.

We are strongly convinced that Ukraine will become an inseparable part of Europe and that the European integration project will not be completed without Ukraine.

I avail myself of the opportunity to express to your, Mr Chairman, the assurances of my highest consideration.

Vydas Gedvilas
