Seimas has launched an exhibition, Indonesia in the Age of Globalisation: Bright and Beautiful

The exhibition, titled Indonesia in the Age of Globalisation: Bright and Beautiful, has been opened in the Exhibition Gallery of the Seimas. The exhibition was presented by Vydas Gedvilas, Speaker of the Seimas, and  Marzuki Alie, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, who was on an official visit to Lithuania with the accompanying delegation on 1–3 May 2013.

While opening the exhibition to mark the 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Indonesia, the parliamentary leaders of the two countries expressed their hope that parliamentary cooperation would encourage closer relations between Lithuania and Indonesia in other areas as well. They believe in the importance of making Lithuanians more aware of Indonesia and of raising the profile of Lithuania among Indonesians.

Before the presentation of the exhibition, Vydas Gedvilas, Speaker of the Seimas, and Benediktas Juodka, Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, met with the Delegation of the House of Representatievs of the Republic of Indonesia. Apart from other subjects covered at the meeting, the Speaker of the Seimas emphasized the link connecting Lithuania and Indonesia, namely, Birutė Galdikas, a world-renowned anthropologist and environmentalist of Lithuanian descent, the most famous orangutan researcher and founder of an orangutan observatory in Indonesia. In Mr Gedvilas’ words, Ms Galdikas, visiting Lithuania together with the Indonesian parliamentary delegation, is an unofficial Lithuanian Ambassador in Indonesia.
