Speaker of the Seimas meets with Prime Minister of the Czech Republic

The Speaker of the Seimas, Vydas Gedvilas, has met with the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic,   Petr Nečas, who is visiting Lithuania. Bilateral economic, political and cultural matters have been discussed at the meeting.

 

 

 

As the former Chair of the Group for Inter-Parliamentary Relations with the Czech Republic in the Seimas during 2008–2012, Mr Gedvilas expressed his appreciation of the close relations between the Lithuanian and the Czech Parliaments, and remarkably their recent intensification on the committee level.

 

Having presented the priorities of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Speaker of the Seimas expressed his hope that the Czech Republic would become a reliable partner and that Lithuania would be able to enjoy its support during the Presidency in the established areas on the Presidency agenda, where the Eastern Partnership remains a priority issue.

 

The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, in his turn, expressed satisfaction with Lithuania remaining one of the best business partners among the three Baltic States. “During my visit in Lithuania, I am accompanied by a group of businessmen as Lithuania is one of our biggest trading partners”, Mr Nečas said during the meeting. “It is in our interest to further enhance the competitiveness and single market in the whole Europe”.

 

It has been agreed during the meeting to develop bilateral relations between Lithuania and the Czech Republic in education, research and cultural fields. The agreement was confirmed by opening an exhibition “Moravian Collections” in the Exhibition Gallery of the Seimas, where the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic delivered a welcome speech.
