The Speaker of the Seimas expressed his appreciation of the excellent bilateral relations and active inter-parliamentary relations between Lithuania and the Czech Republic. “In the previous legislative term, I chaired the Seimas Group for Inter-Parliamentary Relations with the Czech Republic. If we failed to fulfil all our plans then, I hope we will manage to do it now when I hold my current position.”
Ms Němcová agreed that Lithuania and the Czech Republic really enjoyed close ties and added that the two counties shared similar positions on many matters. “Political, economic and cultural cooperation is extremely important for us; therefore, it is necessary to further develop and strengthen it.”
The Speaker of the Seimas presented the guidelines and priority areas for the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, as well as the events planned at the Seimas during the Presidency. The participants of the meeting exchanged their views on the Eastern Partnership and discussed the situation and the plans of Lithuania and the Czech Republic in the area of energy security, nuclear energy and the prospect of the extraction of shale gas.
