Speaker of the Seimas bid farewell to the Austrian Ambassador

Press release, 9 July 2013

Speaker of the Seimas, Vydas Gedvilas, has met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Austria, Helmut. B. Koller, who has finished his term of office in Lithuania.

Vydas Gedvilas expressed his satisfaction with close inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries and  his hope that they would become even stronger in the future. The Speaker of the Seimas asked the Ambassador to convey his invitation to the President of the National Council of the Republic of Austria, Barbara Prammer, to visit Lithuania at a time convenient to her, possibly even during the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Vydas Gedvilas noted that economic relations between Lithuania and Austria had been constantly expanding and referred to the statistics showing the increase in the volume of both import and export in 2012, compared to 2011.

Ambassador Koller stressed that the life was “just boiling” in the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania. “This is why I have visited the Seimas perhaps even more frequently than the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during my term,” he said. He also noted that the new Austrian Ambassador was due to arrive in Lithuania on 12 August 2013.
