Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas, urges the President of Georgia to seek compromise between various political forces

Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas, met with Mikheil Saakashvili, President of Georgia, in Tbilisi. The Speaker urged the President to seek compromise between various political forces. Otherwise, it will be much more difficult to speed up the progress towards European integration. The Speaker of the Seimas assured the President that Lithuania will support progressive aspirations of Georgia.

“I am convinced that Georgia chose the right path, and I hope that you will not stray from this path for the sake of ensuring a better life for your children and grandchildren. I believe that you will see to that after today’s meeting and after our delegation’s visit,” Mrs Graužinienė said.

The Speaker of the Seimas also met with David Bakradze, Leader of the Opposition of the Georgian Parliament, who assured her that despite the disagreements with the ruling coalition, the opposition of the Georgian Parliament supports the country’s aspirations to European integration and asks for Lithuania’s full support of their efforts.

 Mrs Graužinienė also had an unplanned meeting with the women’s parliamentary group comprising women from various parties, the ruling coalition and the opposition of the Georgian Parliament. She called on the female Members of Parliament to play an active role in the implementation of all parliamentary measures aimed at achieving Georgian goals of European integration.
