Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas, is currently paying a working visit to Moldova. Together with other speakers from the Nordic and Baltic countries, the Speaker of the Seimas is taking part in the meetings organised in the framework of the NB8 in Chisinau.
Moldova’s European integration prospects and its plans to sign the Association Agreement this summer have been discussed today in the meeting with Igor Corman, President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.
“It is my pleasure to meet you in Moldova. Lithuania supports Moldova’s determination to take the European path. We pledged our support last week by adopting a resolution of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, expressing support to the signing, ratification and implementation of the EU association agreements with Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine. So let me once again reiterate this here in Chisinau,” Ms Graužinienė said in the meeting with the President of the Parliament of Moldova.
The Speaker of the Seimas stresses that Moldova needs to focus and make proper preparations for the implementation of the Association Agreement. She highlights that Lithuania is willing to share its experience.
“Visa-free regime is Moldova’s first step towards the European Union. The people of Moldova must not only hear what Europe is all about but also feel it and realise how the community can improve the lives of ordinary people,” Ms Graužinienė said.
In the afternoon, the Speaker of the Seimas will meet with Nicolae Timofti, President of the Republic of Moldova, and Iurie Leancă, Prime Minister. Tomorrow she will have a meeting with Vladimir Voronin, Leader of the Opposition, and a visit to the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, where she will meet with the leadership and public figures of the autonomous region.
