“Varpas”  is a periodical (monthly) of The Union of Fighters for Lithuania Freedom (UFLF) that first time was published in February 1996. It is publishing on the funds of the supporters and distributing in Lithuania and abroad.

   Earlier “Varpas” had been published in Soviet concentration camps by state prisoners: in 1955 – in Vorkuta, in 1957 – in Inta, in 1975-1989 – in the underground of occupied Lithuania.

   The main purpose of the edition – the protection of the independence of the motherland, human liberty and rights, the education of national and civil consciousness, the stimulation of  peace and unity among citizens.

   “Varpas”, like other editions of  the political and public organisations, needs website very much, to ensure a wider collaboration between the members of the Union and the rest of society. Everybody, who are concerned about the tragical history of the nation, needs it.

   The website will reflect not only the stuff of “Varpas”, but also the main problems of Lithuania, the activity of UFLF, meetings. It will proclaim predictable actions for the sake of the motherland.

   The website will be delivered in three languages – Lithuanian, Russian and English.

   Why Russian?

   A lot of state prisoners from various nations, who had been fighting with the Empire of the Evil, are concerned about the past events, about the destiny of their comrades-in-arms, knows Russian. The news in Russian are asked by “Memorial” from Russia and other familiar organisations of the democratic societies.

   Why English?

   This language is international. With the help of this language the world can know the crimes of the communists. We must obtain, that everybody would know about these crimes.

   The main themes of “Varpas”:

         guerrilla fight after the World War II. For Lithuania this war ended only in 1990.03.11

         selfless fight of state prisoners and dissidents for the independence of Lithuania and human rights. Their fight in the concentration camps and the tragedies in the basements of KGB and exile;

         the reminiscences of the resistants survivors;

         the activity and the destiny of the Lithuanian most enlightened persons, fighters for freedom of nation;

         the fight of Lithuanian nation for freedom during the years of tsarism and Bolsheviks;

         the links with the Lithuanian communities abroad and the like-minded democrats;

         the ways and the wrong ways of the fights for independence;

         the literary experimentation of the state prisoners and exiles;

         the concentration of readers for the elimination of the sores of the political and social life;

         the description of the events, congresses, meetings, photo clips.

   The number of the themes should increase in future.
