The Seimas adopted the Seimas
Resolution On the Resignation of the Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of
Lithuania. Voting results: for 110, abstained 3.
Following the letter of resignation
of the Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania as of 31 March 2008,
the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania decided to satisfy the letter of
resignation of Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Viktoras
Muntianas as of 31 March 2008.
The reason of resignation,
according to the Speaker of the Seimas, is a wrong action which caused doubts
about the transparency of his activities and his intentions. Mr. Muntianas had
in mind the information announced in the media that he handed money to an
official of the Kaunas County for certain services last summer.
The Seimas appointed First
Deputy Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Česlovas Juršėnas the
acting Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.
