Speaker of the Seimas Arūnas Valinskas and President of the Republic agree on close cooperation

The first meeting between President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus and new Speaker of the Seimas Arūnas Valinskas (the new Speaker was elected in the first  sitting of the newly elected Seimas on 17 November 2008) was held in the Presidential Palace on 24 November.

Leaders of the state unanimously emphasised the necessity of a sustainable dialogue between the Seimas and the Presidential Palace at this difficult time for Lithuania.

“I believe that considerable political experience accumulated by His Excellency and vigour of the new majority of the Seimas will result in fruitful collaboration,” Mr. Valinskas stated after a constructive dialogue with the President.

The issue of adoption of the state budget and its main directions were discussed at the meeting. Foreign policy guidelines and flaws of the Lithuanian legal system were also touched upon.

“I have personally assured the President that we have been forming the management and the entire structure of the Seimas in a rush because we are eager to start solving the most important and relevant problems of the country,” Mr. Valinskas claimed.
