In response to yesterdays unrest in Riga, Speaker of the Seimas Arūnas Valinskas called Speaker of the Latvian Saeima Gundars Daudze. Mr. Valinskas condemned the acts of vandalism and expressed solidarity with the head of the parliament of the neighbouring state and entire Latvia.
We have been following the current situation in your country with great concern. Security and stability of the three Baltic States are very closely interrelated. Facing the global crisis, we all, non-governmental organisations, and the opposition share the responsibility of not turning the current situation into a political or even a national crisis, Mr. Valinskas told Mr. Daudze.
The Speaker of the Seimas also assured the Speaker of the Latvian Parliament that Lithuania was ready for concrete actions concerning the liquidation of vandalism consequences and preventing vandalism in the future. According to Mr. Valinskas, the Baltic States should more closely coordinate their positions and actions in these hard times.
Everybody from the leaders of the state to all its institutions have to stand for the interests of the state and its citizens, the Speaker of the Seimas expressed his opinion.
