During his official visit to Georgia, Speaker of the Seimas Arūnas
Valinskas met with President of Georgia Michail Saakašvili.
According to Mr. Valinskas,
Lithuania has supported Georgias Euro-Atlantic aspirations and will continue
supporting them; our country is prepared to share its experience and political
and practical instruments to help Georgia implement its aim. We are the
tribune from which you are welcome to talk to Europe and we will continue to be
such tribune in the future, the Head of the Lithuanian Parliament said.
The Georgian President appreciated the full and continuous
support and assistance offered by the Lithuanian government and the public, in
particular, and stated with satisfaction that close historical ties of both
countries are continuously being strengthened.
During the meeting the issues of security of Georgia and
Lithuania, as well as other Baltic states were discussed. According to Arūnas
Valinskas, Lithuania respects Georgias territorial integrity. The Head of the
Seimas emphasised that small countries like Lithuania and Georgia should
genuinely and continuously pursue that all countries respect the principles of
international law and adhere to them on an equal basis, and fully meet their
obligations assumed in respect of each other and the international community at
large.
Bilateral relations were also discussed at the meeting
between the Georgian President and the Head of the Lithuanian Parliament. Both,
Mr. Saakašvili and Mr. Valinskas stressed that Lithuania and Georgia have
developed outstanding relations, however, not all possibilities have been fully
used, in particular in the development of economic-trade relations that are
highly potential.
The Speaker of the Seimas informed Mr. Saakašvili that
a large delegation of entrepreneurs had arrived together with him, which shows
that the Lithuanian entrepreneurs are seriously interested in Georgia.

Speaker of the Seimas delegation at the PACE, Chairman of the
International Commission for the Evaluation of the Crimes of the Nazi and
Soviet Occupation Regimes in Lithuania Emanuelis Zingeris accompanied the Speaker of the Seimas during
the visit to Georgia. The Seimas Speaker was also accompanied by his wife, MP Ingrida
Valinskienė.
