Seimas Speaker Arūnas Valinskas met with President of the European Parliament Hans-Gert Pöttering upon his visit to Lithuania.
We hope that after the forthcoming elections to the European Parliament the new MPs will work and vote for the values which have been the most important when establishing the European Parliament. In particular now, when we are facing new challenges, said the Head of the Seimas.
The President of the European Parliament noted that solidarity in the development of democracy and taking care of the energy security of Europe had become as important as never before. Mr. Pöttering also claimed that Vilnius and the European Humanities University were frequently mentioned in the European Parliament as the perfect example of initiative when discussing the process of democracy dissemination.
We seek that the students of this university become infected with democracy like a virus and wish to establish it in their country as soon as possible. The more such initiatives we have, the more we accelerate the process, said Mr. Valinskas.
Participants of the meeting also discussed Eastern Neighbourhood and other relevant EU related issues.
