8 September 2010

Speaker of the Seimas Irena Degutienė received Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri on an official visit to Lithuania

At the meeting with the Georgian Prime Minister, the Leader of the Lithuanian Parliament noted that Georgia remains an important country in the Lithuanian foreign policy. This fact was attested by the Resolution supporting Georgia’s territorial integrity, adopted in June. “Lithuania is and will be a friend of Georgia. We are supporting and will support the territorial integrity of Georgia, its Euro Atlantic aspirations, reforms and democracy development. We will continue to bring up this issue in the future at various international meetings,“ I. Degutienė said.

Georgian Prime Minister N. Gilauri noted that the Resolution adopted by the Seimas is very significant for the people of his country and on behalf of all of them he expressed gratitude to the Speaker of the Seimas for supporting this document.

“The resolution of the Seimas is the most significant document that has ever been adopted for Georgia beyond its borders. Allow me to express my gratitude to you personally for your strong support and efforts to adopt it. I am expressing the gratitude not only on my own behalf, but also on behalf of the President of Georgia, the Parliament of Georgia and the public of Georgia,“ N. Gilauri said.

The meeting discussions included Georgian rapprochement efforts with the European Union and NATO, facilitation of the Schengen Area visa regime for Georgian residents, the EU-Georgia Association Agreement and the EU-Georgia Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement and the progress, achieved by Georgia in its negotiations on the above mentioned agreements.
