Speaker of the Seimas asks Luxembourg to support Lithuania in EU-level discussions on its energy independence

Mrs Irena Degutienë, Speaker of the Seimas, had a meeting with Mr Laurent Mosar, President of the Luxembourg Parliament, who is paying the first official visit to Lithuania in twenty years of its independence. 

 

The Speaker noted that the visit opened a new stage of diverse cooperation between Lithuania and Luxembourg. “We open a new page of our bilateral relations. There are a number of matters mutually important to Lithuania and Luxembourg. Our country is interested in developing economic cooperation and in attracting investment from Luxembourg,” Degutienë said.

 

The Speaker underlined that Lithuania is hopes for Luxembourg’s support in EU’s debates on the matters of key importance to our country – energy security, EU common energy policy, and concrete initiatives in that area.

 

There was also an exchange of views on Russia’s and Belarus’ plans to build new nuclear power plants close to Lithuania’s national border and a discussion about possible cooperation in alternative energy projects.
