12 February 2010
Mrs Irena Degutienė, Speaker of the Seimas, received Mr Krystian Pater, Director General of ORLEN Lietuva.
The ORLEN Lietuva managers told the Speaker about the companys activities and performance last year as well as its plans for the coming year. The problems the company was facing in Lithuania were also discussed at the meeting. Construction of Mažeikiai - Klaipėda oil product pipeline and renovation of the railway section from Mažeikiai to Latvia were indicated as the main problems encountered by ORLEN Lietuva.
Mrs Degutienė noted that Lithuania was interested in PKN ORLENs presence in Lithuania and in the successful and profitable activities of ORLEN Lietuva. The Speaker also stated that in view of the current geopolitical context it was senseless to talk about the sales of AB Klaipėdos nafta as this company is of strategic significance to Lithuanias security. She noted that the Governments of Lithuania and Poland should jointly encourage the European Commission, in its negotiations with Russia, to be more active in raising the issue of renewal of oil supply by pipeline to Lithuania.
