With the visit of Irena Degutienė, Speaker of the Seimas, to Georgia approaching, she met with the Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Grigol Vashadze who is visiting Vilnius today.
The Speaker reiterated Lithuanias will to maintain good relations with Georgia and to assist the state of Georgia and its people on the complicated road of Euro-Atlantic integration.
The Foreign Affairs Minister noted how pleased he was to visit Vilnius and discuss a great number of various matters. Lithuanias advise is very important to us as you have already covered the road which we are on now, G. Vashadze said.
Speaker Degutienė emphasised that the Resolution on the Situation in Georgia, which recognises its territorial integrity and expresses concern about the status of its occupied territories and refugees, has been registered at the Seimas. 76 Members of the Seimas have supported the draft Resolution with their signatures.
The presentation of the Resolution in support of Georgia is on tomorrows agenda. I will suggest to the plenary that we consider it under the urgency procedure thus the Resolution aimed to back our Georgian friends will be passed tomorrow. I believe that the Lithuanian Seimas will resolutely endorse the Resolution, which will be its gift to Georgia on the occasion of the Independence Day of Georgia, Speaker Degutienė said.
