On Friday, 30 May 2014, the Spring Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA) will begin in the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania. The Session will also be attended by Anders Fogh Rasmussen, NATO Secretary General and Chairman of the North Atlantic Council.

In the evening, at 18.30, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen will be awarded the Honorary Doctorate regalia of Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) in the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. Members of the Seimas and participants in the NATO PA Spring Session are invited to the solemn event.

Mr Rasmussen is awarded the Honorary Doctorate of KTU for development of knowledge and advanced future technologies in order to implement the concept of smart defence and intellectual principles of defending the ideal of freedom. “In a shifting security atmosphere in Europe, Mr Rasmussen emphasises the importance of sharing responsibility while trying to achieve common goals. We are happy that KTU researchers contribute to NATO by creating defence technologies. The University is awarding the Honorary Doctorate to Anders Fogh Rasmussen not only for aiming to keep up with the changing world, but also for sharing responsibility while creating it,” says Petras Baršauskas, Rector of KTU.

An open solemn meeting of the Senate and the Rector’s Office of KTU will take place in the Great Hall of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences (Gedimino pr. 3, Vilnius).
