A delegation of the European Parliament Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE), under the leadership of Chair of the Committee Amalia Sartori, will visit Lithuania.

On 16 July 2013, the visiting delegation will attend the meeting of the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly to be held in the Seimas. Subsequently, at 4.00 p.m. the delegation will meet with members of the Seimas Committee on Economics, the Committee on European Affairs and the Committee on Education, Science and Culture in Algirdas Mykolas Brazauskas Hall (Building 1 of the Seimas). The representatives of the Committees of the Seimas will present recent developments in the areas of their competence and the events of the parliamentary dimension of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU. Together with the Members of the European Parliament, they will discuss the creation of the EU internal energy market, the elimination of energy islands, the development of energy and transport infrastructure, and the EU’s external energy policy and have an exchange of views on corporate competitiveness, the development of smart industry policy, and the promotion of economic growth.

The visit of the delegation of the ITRE Committee to Lithuania is scheduled for 15–17 July 2013. In addition to the meetings in the Seimas, the delegation plans to meet with President Dalia Grybauskaitė, Minister of Transport and Communications Rimantas Sinkevičius, Minister of Economy Evaldas Gustas, Minister of Education and Science Dainius Pavalkis, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Vytautas Leškevičius, as well as representatives of various industrial organisations in Lithuania. 

The delegation of the ITRE Committee comprises Chair of the Committee Amalia Sartori (Italy), Algirdas Saudargas (Lithuania), Lena Kolarska-Bobińska (Poland), Andrzej Grzyb (Poland), Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats); Miroslav Randsdorf (Czech Republic), Confederal Group of the European United Left – Nordic Green Left; Paweł Robert Kowal (Poland), European Conservatives and Reformists Group; Zigmantas Balčytis (Lithuania) and Norbert Glante (Germany), Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament.

ITRE is a Committee of the European Parliament responsible for the Union's industrial policy and the application of new technologies, research and space policies, Community measures relating to energy policy¸ the security of energy supply and energy efficiency, the Euratom Treaty and Euratom Supply Agency, nuclear safety, decommissioning and waste disposal in the nuclear sector, the information society and information technology.
