Committees on European Affairs and on Foreign Affairs: Montenegro seeks support from the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU in the EU accession negotiations

On 12 September 2013, Gediminas Kirkilas, Deputy Speaker of the Seimas and Chair of the Committee on European Affairs, and Benediktas Juodka, Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, met with Aleksandar Pejović, State Secretary for European Integration and Chief Negotiator for Negotiations on Accession of Montenegro to the European Union, and discussed the prospects of EU membership for Montenegro.

Montenegro seeks support from the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU in the EU accession negotiations, particularly in opening Chapters 23 (Judiciary and Fundamental Rights) and 24 (Justice, Freedom and Security).

The Lithuanian representatives assured their support for Montenegro's membership of the EU and commended this state for the progress in establishing the rule of law.
