On 7 November 2012, Jonas Milerius, Secretary General of the Office of the Seimas, was awarded the Lithuanian Diplomacy Star – an official award of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania. Audronius Ažubalis, Minister of Foreign Affairs, decided to award the Lithuanian Diplomacy Star to the leader of the Office of the Seimas, which ensures the activities of the Seimas, taking into consideration the close cooperation between the institutions in the implementation of foreign policy goals.

“I accept the award as, first and foremost, the recognition of the work of the Office of the Seimas. The staff of the Office of the Seimas have to deal with an indeed huge responsibility when organising international events where decisions, important not only for Lithuania but also for the entire international community, are made. This award serves as an encouragement to and commitment of the Office of the Seimas, as well as other state institutions, to live up to the responsibility entrusted in them, which includes ensuring professionalism in addressing one of the biggest challenges since the restoration of independence – the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2013,” the Secretary General pointed out.
Jonas Milerius has been Secretary General of the Office of the Seimas since November 2009 while he has been working for the Office of the Seimas since November 1990. As a public servant, Milerius has been awarded the Commemorative Medal of 13 January, Knight’s Cross of the Order “For Merits to Lithuania” and the commemorative statuette “Gražina” (the award of the Speaker of the Seimas for his contribution to Lithuania’s accession to NATO).
