Press release, 31 May 2013

At the meeting on 31 May 2013, the Seimas Committee on European Affairs approved the draft agenda of the Meeting of the Chairpersons of the Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the European Union (COSAC) to be held in Vilnius on 7–8 July 2013.

The key highlights on the agenda of the Meeting of the Chairpersons of COSAC include the issues of the EU’s political and economic union. A keynote speech on the topic will be delivered by Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for inter-institutional relations and administration.

The issues are particularly relevant for the EU, bearing in mind that after the economic and financial crisis, the EU Member States now have to decide on the level of their integration in different fields while the strengthening of the economic and monetary union requires EU’s political union as well.
