“The main Lithuanian political parties, Social Democrats, Liberals and Conservatives, have reached a clear consensus on major goals of Lithuanian foreign policy, on the priorities of the Lithuanian Presidency and on support for the EU Eastern Partnership Policy,” Gediminas Kirkilas, Deputy Speaker of the Seimas and Chairman of the Committee on European Affairs said at the meeting with Polish journalists organised by the European Commission Representation Office in Poland and Polish Institute of International Affairs.

Mr Kirkilas also stressed that “if the EU signs the Association Agreement with Ukraine in November this year, it will have more power instruments to influence Ukraine to continue its democratic reforms.”
Petras Auštrevičius, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on European Affairs, who also took part in the meeting with the Polish media once again expressed Lithuania’s exceptional support to the EU Eastern Partnership policy.
Loreta Raulinaitytė, Director of Communications Department of the Office of Seimas, EU-Presidency Coordinator, presented the EU parliamentary conference on economic and monetary union. The conference will be launched during the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The aim of the conference is to engage European and national legislative powers more actively in decision-making on the EU level in order to implement Art.13 of the Lisbon Treaty more effectively.
