Dear people of Lithuania, Guests of our capital city Vilnius,
We are marking the 23rd anniversary of the restoration of Independence of Lithuania today. It is the day of exceptional significance to our Nation and our State – it is the 11th of March today, the symbol of our national independence, freedom, strength and unity.
Lithuania is proud of its achievements as a member of the civilised world community and of plentiful positive change such as membership of the European Union and international organisations. We are also proud of Lithuanians’ achievements in science, arts, culture and sports in Europe and across the world.
While hoisting our tricolour national flag on the occasion of the 11th of March, the day which is particularly dear to our hearts, we recall with gratitude and respect the Signatories to the Act of Independence who fought for Lithuania’s Independence and built the Lithuanian State; we also recall the unity and mutual support of the three Baltic States.
We thank them for our lives in a free Lithuania where we can work, study and create and where we can proudly say Lie-tu-va referring to our country that is our home, our motherland and our Homeland.
May the joy of freedom never fade; may the celebrations continue to gain festivity and meaning. May this be a holiday to us and future generations, and the future generations of the three Baltic States.
