Session 3 of the Meeting of Secretaries General of European Union Parliaments hosted by the Seimas dealt with the coordination of EU affairs in the offices of national Parliaments. Claes Mårtensson, Deputy Secretary General of the Swedish Riksdag, Horst Risse, Secretary General of the German Bundestag, and Jean-Pierre Bloch, Director of the European Affairs Service of the French National Assembly, shared their experiences in their speeches.
The speakers presented the rules of procedure specific to their parliaments and presented changes introduced in their work in considering European Union affairs. The Secretaries General believe that exchange of good practices in coordination of EU affairs is essential for each Member State.
The Meeting of Secretaries General of European Union Parliaments was organised in preparation for the Conference of Speakers of European Union Parliaments, the last parliamentary dimension event of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU, to be held in the Seimas in spring.
