On
8-11 June 2014, Emanuelis Zingeris (Head of Delegation), Chair of the Seimas
Group for Inter-Parliamentary Relations with the Republic of Croatia, joined
by Aurelija Stancikienė and Arvydas Mockus, members of the Group, visited the
Republic of Croatia. The Delegation met with Josip Leko, Speaker
of the Croatian Parliament; Arsen Bauk, Minister of Public Administration
of Croatia; Hrvoje Marušić, Assistant to the Minister of Foreign and European
Affairs; Hrvoje Nekić, Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group with
Lithuania; Daniel Mondekar, Chairman of the European Affairs Committee; Frano Matušić,
Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee, and other members of the
Committee; and Branko Branko Bačić, Chairman of the Environment and Nature Conservation Committee.
The Delegation also visited the Djakovo region, whose inhabitants took an
active interest in the implementation of the EU-supported projects in Lithuanias
regions

During the visit, the Delegation
shared EU membership experience, exchanged contacts and views on enhancing economic
cooperation as well as on measures to overcome the economic crisis, and discussed
the prospects for EU enlargement, neighbourhood and energy security.
Mr Zingeris, Head of
the Seimas Group for Inter-Parliamentary Relations with the Republic of Croatia and Deputy Chair of the Committee
on European Affairs, noted during the exchanges of opinion that Lithuania held
Croatia in high esteem ever since 1992 when the independence of Republic of
Croatia was recognized. In his words, Lithuania was consistent in supporting
Croatia and other Western Balkan countries on their path for further
integration into the European Union and NATO and was ready to expand the cooperation.
Both sides exchanged proposals and agreed to use the opportunities to expand their
economic cooperation and cooperation in tourism.
During his meeting
with the Delegation, Josip Leko, Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, stressed
that Croatia was interested in Lithuanias EU membership experience and that
the Parliament of Croatia would support the ministries in order to build
bridges for cooperation in the economic sphere and trade. According to the Speaker,
the parliamentary friendship groups can demonstrate that they are the best
promoters of good friendship ties.

While referring to the
current problems of the European Union, the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament recalled
the EU Speakers Conference on 6-8 April 2014 in Vilnius and the guidelines
adopted therein to search for the solution to the crisis in Ukraine in
conformity with international law and respect of the principles of sovereignty and
territorial integrity while avoiding any aggressive action.
