Loreta Graužinienė and the other PA-UfM Speakers discussed migration issues in Lisbon

On 11 May 2015, Speaker of the Seimas, Loreta Graužinienė, attended the Second Summit of Speakers of Parliaments of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean in Lisbon, Portugal. The main purpose of the Summit was discussing migration, asylum and human rights in the Mediterranean region.

The Summit emphasised that migration pressures should be treated as a priority by all governments. The participants noted that the EU did not have a unified position on its migration policy so far.

The Portuguese Parliament as the Presidency of the Summit initiated the adoption of the Final Declaration with concrete proposals for addressing the growing problem of migration.

Mrs Graužinienė and the other Speakers of Parliaments were received by the President of the Republic of Portugal, Anibal Cavaco Silva.

The first Summit of Speakers of Parliaments of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean was held in Marseille, France, in 2013.
