Biography
Born on 7 September 1937, in Marijampolė region, the village of Sangrūda, into the family of peasants.
1958-1963 studied the Lithuanian language and history at Vilnius University. Worked at the Department of Philosophy. 1982 winner of the scholarship of the Humboldt Fund. Went on a study visit to Universities of Vienna, Manhaim, Frankfurt am Main, Giesen. 1990-1992 - Dean of the Department of Philosophy at Vilnius University, Habil. Doctor of Humanities. Published several books and articles about the issues of ideology and the theory of values. In 1997 published a monograph. Was member of the CPSU, supported succession of the LCP from the CPSU. Since 1990 - member of the management of the Lithuania Democratic Labour Party. Since 1992 - member of the Seimas. Speaks German and Russian languages. Wife Vida Zita is a philologist, Doctor of Humanities, Reader of Vilnius University. The family has two daughters. Member of the Seimas Delegation for the Relations with the European Parliament. Member of the Seimas Delegation to the Interparliamentary Union. Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with the Republic of Austria. Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with Greece and Cyprus Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with the Federal Republic of Germany.
