Biography
Born in Radviliškis region on 7 March, 1947, into a family of farmers.
In 1948 , together with his parents, deported to Krasnojarsk region by the Soviet authorities. Returned to Lithuania in 1957. Finished Pociūnėliai secondary school in Radviliškis region. In 1973 graduated from Kaunas Institute of Medicine (currently - Medical University) as a surgeon. Worked as a surgeon at Plungė Regional Central Hospital till 1976. In 1976-1979 - deputy head physician at the same hospital. In 1979-1992 worked at Kaunas clinical hospital III. In 1992 - a deputy of Kaunas city Council. A member of the Seimas since 1992. Worked at the Committee of Health, Social Affairs and Labour. Took part in the activities of the Lithuanian Reform Movement Sąjūdis. A member of the Lithuanian Christian Democratic Party, a member of its Council and Board. Elected chairman of the Lithuania Labour Federation in 1995. Hobbies - fishing, shooting. Married. Wife Gražina is a teacher of the Lithuanian language, daughter Kristina is a physician, son Kazimieras is a pupil. Member of the Seimas Delegation for the Relations with the European Parliament. Member of the Seimas Delegation to the Interparliamentary Union. Member of the Seimas Delegation to the European Union and the Republic of Lithuania Joint Parliamentary Committee. Member of Group of Parliamentary Relations of Lithuania and the Republic of Austria. Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with the Republic of Italy. Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with Canada. Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with the Ukraine. Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with North European Countries (Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden). Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with the Federal Republic of Germany.
