Biography

Born on 25 September 1933 in Kaunas.

In 1956 graduated from Kaliningrad (Russian Federation) Higher Engineering Military Marital School.

In 1956-1959 - served in the Soviet navy.

In 1959 was demobilised. During the Caribbean crises was called to the navy again, was the captain of a rocket vessel. A year later was fired. Upon return to Kaunas worked at the Kaunas Technical Research Institute of Radio measurements as an engineer, secretary of the groups, as a head of the division.

In 1988 got engaged in Sąjūdis Reform Movement activity, was member of the Sąjūdis Seimas. Participated in publishing the Sąjūdis newspaper "Kauno aidas," was editor-in-chief of its Russian version.

In 1989 was elected People's Deputy of the USSR, joined the group of interregional deputies headed by A. Sacharov. Worked in the national Security Commission, was Chairman of the Mandate and Ethics Commission.

Member of the Seimas since 1992.

Former member of the CPSU. Member of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, member of its Council since 1991.

Speaks Polish, Russian and the Ukrainian languages. Married. Has a son.

Member of the Seimas Delegation to the Baltic Assembly.

Member of the Seimas Delegation to the Interparliamentary Union.

Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with the Czech Republic.

Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with Canada.

Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with France.

Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Chairman of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with the Republic of Greece and Cyprus.

Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with the Russian Federation.
