Biography
Born on 31 July 1953, in Anykščiai region, the village of Papiliai.
In 1971 finished Viešintai secondary school, attended Vilnius Technical School 21. In 1973-1978 - studied at Vilnius University and acquired the specialisation of a hydro-geologist. In 1978-1990 - worked at the Geological expedition of the Lithuanian Geological Administration. In 1981 - went to Gargždai to work in the oil prospecting expedition, explored the bottom of the Baltic Sea in the economic zone of Lithuania. In 1988-1990 - head of Gargždai division of the Lithuanian Sąjūdis, member of the Sąjūdis Seimas. In 1990 - elected Deputy to the Supreme Council - the Reconstituent Seimas - in Gargždai single-mandate constituency. In 1992-1996 - reviewer of the Christian Democratic Party Parliamentary Group, an assistant to Seimas member Algirdas Saudargas. In 1996 - Chief specialist at the ministry of Environmental Protection. Took part in drawing up the draft law of the state environmental protection strategy. Published a number of articles on rational use of environmental protection and natural resources. Member of the Union of Geologists of Lithuania. In 1990 - a trainee in parliamentary activities at the Swedish Rigsdag. In 1992 - a trainee in France with the focus on the type of democracy, decentralisation of power and division of functions and power. In 1995 - member of the Lithuanian Christian Democratic Party. Married. Has three sons. Member of the Seimas Delegation to the Interparliamentary Union. Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with the Czech Republic. Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with Canada. Chairman of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with Kuwait. Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with Japan. Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with North European Countries (Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Finland, Sweden).
