Biography
Born in Kaunas, on 8 September 1953, into the family of teachers.
Graduated from Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (currently University of Technology), the Department of Chemical Technology in 1976 and started work as a scientific research worker at the Research Laboratory of Large Molecule Compounds. 1987-1990 a post graduate student of Higher Polytechnic School of Prague. Defended a doctor's thesis in philosophy. 1979-1986 was engaged in Young Communist and Party activities. 1990-1992 - head of the group for parliamentary activity of the Lithuanian Democratic Labour Party. In 1992 - a reviewer of the Lithuanian Democratic Labour Party Parliamentary Groups of the Supreme Council - the Reconstituent Seimas. In 1992-1996 - a member of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania. In 1993 elected Deputy Chairman of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania. In 1996 - adviser to the President of the Republic of Lithuania on political affairs. In 1998 -an adviser to President Algirdas Brazauskas. Member of the Seimas since 1998. Member of the Lithuanian Democratic Labour Party, a member of the Council of the Presidium of the Party, Deputy head of the Board of "Algirdas Brazauskas Foundation." Speaks English and Russian languages. Wife Vilma is an economist, the family has a daughter. Member of the Seimas Delegation to the Interparliamentary Union. Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with the Federation of Switzerland. Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with France.
