Born on 20 December 1962 in the region of Varėna, into a family of a forester.

1991 - graduated from the Department of History of Vilnius University. Worked in the capacity of the inspector of Cultural heritage in the region of Varėna.

1995 - Senior inspector of the Department of Protection of Cultural Values of Alytus territorial branch. Investigated into the post-war history and published many scientific articles on that theme.

Co-author of the books "Lithuanian partisans in 1944-1953", "Fights for Freedom in

1944-1953" and "Partisan war and its Suppression in MVD-MGB Documents in 1944-1953."

1991-1996 - member of the editors' college of the magazine "The Archives of Fight for Freedom."

Member of the Board f the Lithuanian Christian Democratic Party, Executive Secretary of the Party.

Speaks English, Russian and Polish languages.

Married, wife Ramunė is a teacher of music. The family has a daughter and two sons.

Member of the Seimas Delegation to the Interparliamentary Union.
